Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a team event?
No - this is purely a Singles event. There are no teams. There are no Doubles matches.
How many matches do I get to play?
You will play a minimum of 10 matches. Each match will be a best of 3 games. Each game will be a maximum of 25 points, 8 boards, or 45 minutes - whichever happens first.
Where will I have to play?
You and your opponent get to decide where you want to play. It can be at your place, your opponent's place, or a weekend session at someone else’s place. If you are not able to make it work, please ask BACA for help - they’ll facilitate a location.
I don’t want to travel all over the Bay Area.
BACA will try its best to pool you with players that are geo located in the area of your preference. But you may still have to play a few matches that can require you to travel a bit. But only for a few games over a 4-month period - we are sure you can make it work.
What if I can’t play in a certain week?
You don’t have to play every week. e.g. You can play 2 matches in one week and none the next week. Whatever your schedule permits. But please do not go several weeks without playing. Catching up on too many matches at the end can get overwhelming for you, and potentially difficult to sync with your opponents.
What if I can’t play all my matches?
The commitment is pretty low. You are being asked to play an average of only one match every week. Some weeks, you may be able to play more than one match. BACA will also host a few catch up sessions for those who are lagging behind. BACA will also periodically nudge you if you are falling behind.
What if less than 11 players sign up?
If less than 11 players sign up by the deadline, BACA will cancel the tournament.
What if more than 11 players sign up? Like 40+ players.
BACA will form pools based on BACA rating and geo location preference of players. BACA will try its best to create balanced pools.
If I make it to the top 8 in the league, what happens after that?
There will be a Grand Finale on May 30th. The top 8 will play Knock Out matches to determine the eventual winner. (QF / SF / Finals - all best of 3 games). All matches will be live streamed on YouTube for all of North America carrom community to watch.
I live outside the Bay Area. Can I still participate?
Unfortunately, no. This tournament is open only to players that reside in the Bay Area.
If there are no venue, equipment or food expenses, why is there a tournament fee?
BACA is paying ICC for the venue on 3 separate dates. Two catch up dates in the middle of the season, and one final KO round. All of those expenses need to be recouped for a successful tournament. The fee is a modest $40, for a whole lot of intense matches that you get to play - against a variety of opponents.
